Built on camera
Most listings show you the finished house. This one has seven episodes on how it was built.
Four friends started with a wooded lot on a quiet cove and spent most of a year building on it. You can watch the foundation go in, the framing go up and every finish get chosen. When you walk through, you'll know what's behind the walls.
Clerestory windows fill the great room with light. A floating staircase leads down to a daylight lower level with its own en-suite. Outside, two decks, an outdoor kitchen with a Big Green Egg, stone steps to a rock fire pit, and a single-slip dock with a swim platform on deep, year-round water.

Where it is
Some of the best water on Smith Lake.
Ryan Creek is some of the best water on Smith Lake, and the stretch locals call Millionaire Mile holds some of the most expensive real estate on the lake. The house sits right on it, in Grand Vista Pointe, tucked into a quiet swimming cove where the water is clear, deep and calm enough for the kids to swim off the dock all summer.
Smith Lake runs more than 100 feet deep in the middle and holds its water year round.
It's the right distance for a weekend home. Leave Birmingham or Huntsville after work on Friday and you're on the dock before sunset. From Nashville or Atlanta, it's an easy morning drive.
